Mecelec Design is always open to looking at different, unusual and sometimes ‘way out there’ projects.
As such, Mecelec Design has been lucky enough to be involved in some projects that have amused, shocked and inspired our engineers.
For everything from vision-inspecting cardboard hospital bedpans for sharp objects to control systems for front fork pitch control on racing motorbikes and machines the size of a house to produce modern art, Mecelec Design will be able to help you with an engineering solution.
Sometimes the most ‘out there’, craziest ideas are the ones that really do make the difference.
Art Production Spin Rig
Mecelec Design was commissioned to produce a spin rig that rotates large flat canvas panels at various speeds while paint-based products are applied. A large indexing carriage moved the operator over the panel, giving full access as it is rotated.
F1 Turbo Charger Balancing Rig
Mecelec Design has designed and built a test rig to balance turbochargers for a well-known F1 team.
The rig provided a platform to spin the turbo. This included an engine oil feed, cooling water feed, oil scavenge and compressed air feed.
The exhaust gas was simulated by compressed air. It was heated to 140 degrees C and connected to the exhaust turbine of the turbocharger. This spun the turbo at 120,000rpm.
