Automotive Engineering Solutions

The automotive industry demands precision, speed, and reliability. With tight lead times and high-volume production pressures, manufacturers require automotive engineering solutions that are robust, efficient, and ready for rapid deployment. Every second counts on the production line—cycle times must be reduced, staffing levels optimised, and poka-yoke techniques applied to support just-in-time (JIT) delivery of consistently high-quality products.

At Mecelec Design Ltd, we specialise in delivering advanced automotive engineering solutions, with a proven track record in designing, building, installing, and commissioning complex production assembly machines and analytical test benches. Our systems are engineered to meet the automotive sector’s most stringent standards and aggressive timelines.

Whether you need a fully automated robotic assembly cell or a simple offline inspection station, our expert engineers deliver cost-effective, reliable solutions tailored to a broad range of automotive manufacturing processes. From concept to commissioning, we provide the technical expertise and innovation needed to keep your production running at peak performance.

Diesel Pump Test Rig

As part of our comprehensive automotive engineering solutions, Mecelec Design developed a fully automated diesel pump test rig for a leading truck manufacturer. The system performs a complete functional test on diesel pumps with high accuracy and repeatability.

A 6-axis robot loads the pump from a palletised conveyor into the test station, where a custom cambox simulates the engine’s cylinder block and camshaft. The test rig also includes a real truck fuel rail, pressurised to 3000 bar, ensuring that testing conditions closely replicate actual engine performance.

Fuel Injector Actuator Test Rig

This advanced test rig, another of Mecelec Design’s automotive engineering solutions, is engineered to flush and test gas/diesel bi-fuel injector actuators for commercial trucks.

The Unit Under Test (UUT) is the upper half of the injector, tested prior to the installation of the costly nozzle. The rig features dual test heads, each capable of running identical processes simultaneously for increased throughput. The actuators are first flushed, and then the cleanliness is verified using inline particle counters, ensuring compliance with strict automotive cleanliness standards.

FAQs

Can the test rigs be customised for different automotive applications?

Yes, both our diesel pump and fuel injector actuator test rigs can be customised to meet specific customer requirements. Whether for different pump types, pressure conditions, or additional testing features, our team works closely with clients to deliver tailored solutions.

What are the key benefits of using these test rigs?

The main benefits include:

  • Increased reliability of components.

  • Higher throughput with dual-head testing capabilities.

  • Reduced risk of failure in critical engine components.

  • Cost savings by preventing costly injector and pump failures.

  • Efficiency in ensuring high automotive manufacturing standards are met.

How does the Fuel Injector Actuator Test Rig work?

The rig features two test heads that perform identical tests simultaneously. It first flushes the injector actuators to remove any debris, then uses inline particle counters to verify the cleanliness of the components, ensuring they meet the stringent requirements for performance and safety in automotive applications.
